The pictures below are not for the faint of heart. Alan woke up with a severe stiff neck several days ago and decided to get some oriental medicine treatment to speed up the healing. Those of you who know me know how fascinated I am by oriental medicine, even having had some training in hand accupuncture, but this is the real thing, and I had such a fun time as the observer and photographer. It was a long process, that began by lying on a warming table with a hot neck wrap for a half hour or so, then accupuncture needles in the neck, leg and hands for 20 minutes, then an electro-magnetic shock treatment for 15 minutes that actually had his body jolting off the table!, and lastly, the buhang cupping treatment. Several punctures are made in a circular pattern, then a cup is placed over the area, the air drawn out of it (sort of like putting the vacuum nozzle on your skin). This removes the "bad" blood that pools in the muscles whenever you have an injury of any kind. It was quite a workover, but beneficial.
This was our Valentine's Day activity! But we are going out for a nice dinner tonight, neck-pain free!
All Better! Thank you Dr. Kim!

WHat?! That is a little crazy! How could you have any more pain when they are pullin blood out of your neck. That must distract for the pain. I am sure you were loving it mom. Got the package you sent yesterday. Paisley's party is a in a few hours so we'll open it then
That is more blood than I was expecting... Makes you wonder who the first was to think, 'Hey lets try sticking a bunch of needles in the dude and sucking out his blood. That should help.' Crazy... but glad it worked! Love you!
The worst was actually in the beginning when the Dr. was digging his fingers into Dad's neck, saying "Does that hurt?" as Dad doubles over in agony! He would poke around and keep coming back to the same point. Definately crazy!
What an interesting way to spend Valentine's Day. Don't know if you ever knew a Brother Pak Jae Am from Busan. He was a Stake President and later a member of the Temple Presidency. Anyway, he was an an acupuncturist. It was interesting to hear him talk about treatments.
Whew. Sign me up! I think that would be neat to try...especially if it works so well!
So, now all I need to do is send these pix to those food storage salesmen in Provo and say, "It happened to the guy I THOUGHT was you; it'll happen to YOU if you call me again!"
Always get an extra smile when I see your comments on my blog, Sister Perriton! I'm glad you're enjoying it. Tell you what: The next time you're heading into that 3rd hour of a foreign language meeting, fire off a quick text to me and I'll make up some scriptures to help you pass the time semi-righteously! (I can't imagine Elder Oakes' indictment of texting in church extends to meetings in a language you don't speak.)
"Wherefore didst thou stick needles in thy neck? Art thou a porcupine?" See? Scriptures for all occasions!
